Who are we?

Kaarak Home is a mother-daughter duo venture by Artika and Anumpama. Karaak Home was founded with a vision to bring back the traditional Indian techniques with a modern twist. Their designs are inspired from their stay in Europe and Africa and are brought to life based on the traditional Indian techniques.

With an intuitive eye for colours, texture and detailing, Artika is a fashion design graduate from National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), New Delhi and Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti, Milan. She has pursued her post-graduation in fashion management from Polimoda, Florence. During her earlier corporate stint with leading fashion retailers, she found inspiration to change the large-scale unsustainable practice of disposing off end-of-season garments, thus giving rise to Kaarak. Her forte lies in conceptualizing designs from upcycled fabrics.

Complementing the artistic flair is the other half of the duo, Anupama, who brings with her 30+ years of experience in home furnishings and garment design. She has learnt the time-honoured Indian handicraft techniques from her mother and grandmothers and can seamlessly blend old age artisan techniques with the contemporary textures and patterns. She is a serial entrepreneur having worked with leading brands including Tata Taneira.

And part of our Kaarak family is an extremely skilful women workforce. We employ part time women employees looking to support their education and local women who want a dignified job that does justice to their talent.

Why Kaarak?

Empowering Hand Made, Empowering Local Women

Kaarak is a women only organization with all our employees being extremely talented women artisans. Each of our products is either handcrafted, hand knitted, hand quilted or hand knotted, which promotes the “hand done” instead of mechanical mass production.

Circular and Eco Friendly

We focus on ‘winning with purpose’ agenda by reducing carbon footprint. And we try to do this in the following ways –

We are in a circular business and all our raw materials are upcycled fabrics, yarn, garments.

All our products are 100% biodegradable with absolutely no usage of chemicals and artificial materials

All our products are hand made, thus having minimal impact on nature in terms of carbon emission

Reviving traditional Indian techniques

We really pride ourselves on our traditionally handcrafted products. Kaarak Home is a new destination for home decor products which integrate handcrafted Indian traditions to reflect a contemporary fashion vocabulary. We have visited local artisans in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Haryana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, West Bengal, Chhattisgarh and Tamil Nadu to understand how we can blend indigenous craft techniques with contemporary designs to bring aesthetic and affordable products to our neoteric consumers.

Our core value is to provide customer delight with our contemporary home decor products made from upcycled raw materials to minimize environmental impact. We also try to inculcate our rich traditional handicraft knowledge in our products, while protecting the natural environment.

Kaarak Home is a circular business where all our raw materials are upcycled. We use excess garments, yarns, and fabrics from the textile and fashion industry to create a unique collection of modern and elegant home decor products. Upcycling fabrics/yarns reduces waste generation and transforms them into completely new products, thereby extending their utility and useful life.

Kaarak Home also believes in leveraging the lost Indian handicraft techniques to create exclusive design patterns suited for the neoteric home. We have spent months researching the regional Indian techniques and talking to local artisans to understand how the traditional Indian techniques can be modernised to bring a quirky collection to our customers.
